THE 46TH FEDERAL PARLIAMENT

* On Tuesday the parliament meets for the first time since the May 18 election, with all 151 lower house MPs and 42 of 76 senators sworn into office.

* The Morrison government goes into the new parliament with a majority 77 seats in the lower house and needing four votes to pass legislation in the Senate.

WHAT'S ON THE AGENDA

* Opening of the 46th parliament on Tuesday, with a speech by new Governor-General David Hurley setting out the Morrison government's priorities for the term.

* Coalition party room to discuss legislation and tactics on Tuesday.

* Election of the Speaker and Senate President. It is expected Tony Smith and Scott Ryan will be returned.

* Income tax cut laws expected to be fast-tracked through the lower house on Tuesday night.

* Wednesday will be dedicated to condolences for former prime minister Bob Hawke who died two days before the election.

* Senate to debate income tax cuts laws as a priority on Thursday. They will pass if the coalition can land four crossbench senator votes.

* Coalition priorities are also expected to include: laws to force energy companies to drive down prices and ensure reliability; tougher sanctions on rogue unions and union bosses; measures to stop and control foreign fighters returning to Australia; crackdown on farm invaders; repeal of the "medevac" laws.

WHAT BOTH SIDES WANT TO SPIN

* The coalition: It has a mandate to pass its entire tax package which it can afford because of strong economic management.
