Fitzgerald extends Magic netball contract

Julie Fitzgerald has extended her contract and will coach Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic for a third trans-Tasman netball league season in 2016.

Australian coach Julie Fitzgerald has extended her contract at the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic for another trans-Tasman netball league season.

Last year named ANZ Championship coach of the year, Fitzgerald said the decision had been an easy one.

"I've loved my time with the Magic and in New Zealand, and I'm delighted to have the opportunity to coach the team again," she said.

Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty chief executive Tim Hamilton said Fitzgerald had done an outstanding job keeping the Magic in contention for this year's play-offs, despite a run of injuries.

"The experience the younger players have gained bodes well for the future, especially when combined with further development under Julie," he said.

With just one game remaining until play-offs, the Magic sit second in the New Zealand conference, five points behind the Northern Mystics, and will play either the Southern Steel or Central Pulse in an elimination final next week.
