The return of lock Michael Fitzgerald bolsters the injury-stricken Chiefs for Saturday's Super Rugby match against the Highlanders in Invercargill.
The Chiefs have already lost Johan Bardoul for the rest of the season after he ruptured the medial ligament in his right knee during the 34-20 win over the Bulls in Rotorua.
It's the same injury which struck fellow lock and flatmate Michael Allardice against the Hurricanes the previous week.
Fitzgerald has recovered from the haematoma he suffered in the Chiefs' 22-18 round 14 loss to the Hurricanes, and will partner up with veteran Ross Filipo, who gets another run after his 70-minute effort against the Bulls.
Ma'ama Vaipulu will replace Liam Messam, who suffered a left shoulder injury during the Chiefs-Bulls match and is undergoing further investigation to determine the full extent of the injury.
In his absence Sam Cane will captain the side.
Marty McKenzie joins the starting line-up in the No.10 jersey, while brother Damian moves to fullback.
In the only other change to the team, Mitchell Crosswell comes into the reserves.
Chiefs: Damian McKenzie, Hosea Gear, Charlie Ngatai, Anton Lienert-Brown, Bryce Heem, Marty McKenzie, Agustine Pulu, Michael Leitch, Sam Cane, Ma'ama Vaipulu, Michael Fitzgerald, Ross Filipo, Ben Tameifuna, Hika Elliot, Pauliasi Manu. Reserves: Quentin MacDonold, Siate Tokolahi, Mitchell Graham, Brian Alainu'uese, Mitchell Crosswell, Brad Weber, Andrew Horrell, Tim Nanai-Williams.
