Fixed parliamentary terms: company heads

The Australian Institute of Company Directors says there should be a move to make terms of federal parliament fixed for four years.

Company directors want the major parties to agree on at least one thing during the election campaign - commit to a referendum for four-year fixed terms.

The Australian Institute of Company Directors says the past 15 parliaments have run for terms of just two-and-a-half years.

"We need a better system that gives our governments and those who run them the ability to make long-term decisions in the best interests of our nation," CEO John Brogden said in a statement on Monday.
