After living through Cronulla's darkest hour, coach Shane Flanagan wants to lead the club to its finest and extend his contract beyond 2017.
Sharks CEO Lyall Gorman said the club would this week sit down with Flanagan and his manager in an attempt to negotiate an extension of his deal.
Already signed until the end of next year, the Sharks are hopeful of locking up Flanagan possibly for another two years as they look to begin their long-term forward planning.
Flanagan said he had had no discussions with Gorman but was passionate about the club and continuing his tenure.
He spent the 2013 season serving an NRL suspension for his failures during the club's supplements saga during the 2010-11 seasons.
Having sprearheaded their rebuild and led the club to the top of the ladder after 13 rounds, Flanagan said he only had designs on staying.
"I've been here for 10 years now, I live locally and always have. I have a great connection with the club," Flanagan said.
"Where the club's been and where it is now, it's a different place.
"The last 10 yearshas gone like that. When you're losing, some of those weeks take a lot of time to get through. But when you're winning, they seem to fly."
