Flappy Bird, the mobile game that surged to the top of download charts before it was abruptly pulled by its creator in February, will return in August.
Programmer Dong Nguyen has told American news channel CNBC that the game will be "less addictive" and sport several new features, including a multiplayer mode.
"People should use their time for something else, be more productive," he told CNBC.
The game, in which players repeatedly tap the screen to direct a flying bird though oncoming sets of pipes without touching them, was wildly popular early in the year.
At its peak, the game was pulling in as much as $US50,000 ($A54,097.92) a day in advertising revenue, Nguyen has said in interviews.
But Nguyen pulled it from all app stores in February, complaining on Twitter that its success had ruined his "simple life".
