Flood watch for north Qld as rain sets in

Up to 500mm of rain is forecast for some areas of north Queensland and a flood watch warning is in place for much of the region.

A flood watch warning remains in place for a large area of north Queensland as heavy rain continues over much of the region.

The weather bureau is forecasting 300-500mm of rain to fall over some areas between Cape Tribulation, north of Cairns, and Cardwell over the next three to four days.

Residents are being warned the severe weather could lead to flash flooding in some already drenched areas.

Rivers at risk of flooding include the Daintree, Mossman, Barron, Mulgrave, Russell, Johnstone, Tully and Murray Rivers.

Last weekend up to 700mm was recorded in some parts of the region after days of heavy rain.
