It's the spring festival that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the nation's capital - and that's before they turn the lights on.
Canberra's famous month-long Floriade festival goes nocturnal this weekend with its Night Fest kicking off on Wednesday night.
For those willing to brave the forecast rain and temperatures as low as 3C, the festival kicks on into the evening until Sunday night with light installations, music, food and wine, as well as comedic acts including Jimeoin.
"The park will come alive and you'll see Floriade like you've never seen it before," says Dianne Ireland, senior manager at Events ACT.
She's already promising bigger and better things at next year's festival with work underway for what will be Floriade's 30th birthday.
Of the almost 500,000 people that visit Floriade each year, around 40,000 turn out to see the tulips by night.
Of the thousands of lights in this year's display, just 12 aren't LED, says Jean Pierre Jammaers, project manager at lighting designer Mandylights.
"It's the most environmentally friendly Floriade yet."
