North Melbourne are enjoying the view from the top of the AFL ladder, but Brad Scott says there's no danger the Kangaroos will get ahead of themselves.
North tightened their grip on the top spot with a hard-fought 9.7 (61) to 6.9 (45) win over the second-placed Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.
The Roos are unbeaten six rounds into an AFL season for the first time since 1979, which is a welcome change from recent years when they've had to work hard to overcome indifferent starts to play finals.
"We're really pleased with where we sit right at the moment," Scott said after the 16-point win.
"(But) we know we faced some significant challenges over the first six weeks and we know we'll have really significant ones coming up.
"We're not at the stage as a team where we'll be getting ahead of ourselves. I don't think we have to guard against that."
In front of 47,622 fans, a venue record crowd for a match between the teams, North led by 12 points at every change before four-goal hero Jarrad Waite scored the only major of the final term to secure the premiership points.
Daniel Wells continued his fine return from an injury-ruined 2015 with a 27-possession performance, while Scott Thompson was almost impassable down back.
And the Kangaroos did it one player down on the bench after quarter-time after Kayne Turner suffered a hamstring injury.
The top-of-the-table clash between the two attacking sides was highly anticipated, but Scott conceded the win wasn't the Roos' prettiest.
"It wasn't far off from what we expected, probably a bit different from what the outside world expected," he said after North failed to break the 100-point barrier for the first time this season.
"They're a very good side in the contest and we pride ourselves on that area too.
"It was pretty keenly fought and I think it's a really good sign that we can get the job done multiple ways regardless of what the opposition throw at us."
