Focus on reducing Aboriginal kids in care

Reducing the over-representation of Aboriginal children in care will be the main focus of a children's forum announced by the Victorian state government.

A regular Aboriginal Children's Forum will help reduce the number of Victorian children in out-of-home care.

Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos will chair the quarterly forum of Aboriginal community members, chiefs of community service organisations and government representatives.

Key areas of focus for the group will be to reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal children in care as well as providing support for vulnerable children and young people, Ms Mikakos said.
