Kaurna man James Charles is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Newcastle - and he's looking for volunteers for his study.
He's researching Aboriginal foot health, particularly looking at bio-mechanics and their potential effects on poor foot health outcomes like ulcers, infections and amputations.
Much poor foot health is related to other conditions such as diabetes, smoking or kidney disease, and past research in the area has looked at the symptoms and their treatment
James Charles is working on the premise that good foot health and an understanding of the unique bio-mechanics of Indigenous feet could offset some of the worst side-effects of those conditions.
He's told Nikki Canning he's hoping to recruit about 50-70 subjects from communities in Sydney in Newcastle and in Forster, on the New South Wales mid-north coast.
