Footy finals beer all clear in CUB dispute

Melbourne brewery workers have flagged strike action during the AFL footy finals, but Carlton and United Breweries says it won't affect beer supplies.

Lovers of a quiet beer during the footy finals can relax: industrial action at Carlton and United Breweries is unlikely to affect supplies while your favourite team makes its bid for premiership glory.

Production at Carlton and United Breweries could shut down during the AFL finals as staff threaten industrial action.

CUB staff at Melbourne's Abbotsford plant have voted in favour of stoppages, after seven months of pay negotiations broke down.

Warehouse workers have already held two-hour stoppages which haven't impacted supply, CUB spokeswoman Jennifer Howard says.

But CUB says it has enough supply in storage to ensure there's beer for the footy.

CUB will monitor stoppages and the impact to beer supplies in the coming weeks, and will use its brewing and networks logistics to pick up any shortfall.

Union United Voice has refused to comment on the state of negotiations with brewers, or on the industrial action plans.
