The Western Force have set plenty of unwanted records over the years, but they have the chance to produce a rare positive one on Saturday night when they take on the Stormers in Cape Town.

The Force are sitting pretty in fifth spot on the Super Rugby table following seven wins from their previous eight games.

The Perth-based franchise have endured years of struggle since entering the competition in 2006.

But if they can beat the battling Stormers, 2014 will officially go down as the Force's most successful campaign.

The Force's previous best season came in 2008, when the star-studded side won seven games on the way to an eighth-placed finish.

With six games to go this season, the Force appear set to smash that seven-game winning mark on the way to a finals berth.

"It's something we've spoken about this week," Force skipper Matt Hodgson said.

"We're looking for that eighth win to go down as the most victorious Force team.

"That's our first goal, and there's plenty more to come as soon as we achieve that eighth win."

Flyhalf Sias Ebersohn is in doubt to face the Stormers after injuring his knee in last week's 23-16 win over the Cheetahs.

The Stormers sit in last spot after snaring just three wins from 11 games.

But Hodgson isn't taking them lightly, especially given the recent history between the two teams.

The Force copped a 51-16 pasting when they last faced the Stormers in Cape Town in 2011, while they were also beaten 17-3 in Perth in 2012.
