Force to talk to O'Connor and Cummins

Western Force winger Nick Cummins is exploring the option of continuing his rugby career in Japan, but coach Michael Foley hopes he stays in Perth.

The Western Force will meet with wayward Wallaby James O'Connor this week, while the Perth-based franchise are also keen to continue contract talks with star winger Nick Cummins.

The Force loom as O'Connor's only real option if he wants to keep playing in Australia after the utility back was sensationally dumped by the Melbourne Rebels.

Force coach Michael Foley and chief executive Mark Sinderberry will meet face-to-face with the 23-year-old this week, but they are yet to decide whether to take a punt on a player well known for his divisive off-field behaviour.

Cummins was hampered by an ongoing knee complaint for much of this season, but still impressed enough to earn a Wallabies call-up for the 2-1 series loss to the British and Irish Lions.

Although the 25-year-old failed to gain any match time during the series, he made a stunning finish to the Super rugby season with a star performance in the Force's 21-15 win over the Brumbies on Saturday.

Cummins is rumoured to be exploring the possibility of continuing his career in Japan, but the Force are keen to keep a player of his talent.

Foley has also been impressed by Cummins' growth as a person off the field, and expects the winger to make a decision on his future at some point over the next month.

The Force have signed the likes of Zack Holmes, Ian Prior and Reds back Luke Morahan for next season, but still have five more spots on their list to fill.
