Force's coaching structure takes shape

Ulster assistant coach Joe Barakat will join the Western Force's new-look Super Rugby coaching team in 2017.

Dave Wessels has made his first appointment since being named Western Force coach, luring Ulster assistant Joe Barakat to the Perth-based Super Rugby club.

Barakat, who's been an assistant coach at Ulster for the past two seasons, will join the Force as its forwards coach in December.

He previously coached at the NSW Waratahs in Sydney, and he also had a five-year spell in Japan.

Barakat has also held roles with the Australian under 21 side and Fiji Rugby Union.

Wessels was appointed head coach of the Force in September on a two-year deal.

He replaced Michael Foley, who was sacked with a year left on his contract.

Skipper Matt Hodgson is expected to re-sign in the coming weeks.
