Former Bulldogs forward Adams dies aged 65

Former Canterbury forward and Great Britain international Mick Adams has died, his former club Widnes announced.

Widnes have announced the death of former captain and Great Britain international Mick Adams at the age of 65.

Adams spent two seasons in Sydney with the Bulldogs in 1975 and 1976, scoring eight tries in 23 appearances.

Adams, a loose forward, made 415 appearances for his hometown club of Widnes from 1971-84 and was a member of the team that became known as the Cup kings after helping them reach 25 finals in that time.

He played in four Challenge Cup finals at Wembley and led the Chemics to victory over Hull in the 1982 Cup final replay.

Adams won 13 caps with Great Britain, including the tours of 1979 and 1984, and played for England in the 1975 World Cup won by the Kangaroos.

In 1992, Adams was inducted into Widnes' hall of fame.

In a statement, Widnes said: "The club would like to pass on their sincere condolences to Mick's family and friends at this time."

The club have called for a minute's applause before Sunday's home game against Castleford as a mark of respect for Adams, who they say passed away overnight.

Fellow English import Martin Offiah, who also played for Widnes prior to stints with the Dragons and Roosters, was among those paying tribute.

"Saddened to hear of the passing of Mick Adams. Widnes legend rip x," he tweeted.
