The former Palmer United Party Senator had his new political party – the Glen Lazarus Team – registered on Friday, three days after he threatened to “grapple tackle” the Prime Minister over CSG issues.

Senator Lazarus said he was “absolutely delighted” with his move, saying his staff will now establish an office in Cairns where they will begin to formulate policies.

“I look forward to representing all corners of Queensland,” he said.

Senator Lazarus has already outlined a number of priorities, including:

  • economic growth and jobs for Queensland
  • assisting and supporting farmers
  • assisting Queenslanders impacted by CSG mining and the drought

The registration comes four months after his spilt with PUP and its leader Clive Palmer, stating that Mr Palmer had not been able to create a "team environment".

His fellow PUP Senator Jacqui Lambie had already quit the party in November.

“The Glenn Lazarus Team will operate and function as a team and I am looking forward to having everyone involved,” Senator Lazarus said.

The party is the latest in a strong of new small parties established by sitting politicians, including the Jacqui Lambie Network and John Madigan’s Manufacturing and Farming Party.
