Former Salvo charged with child abuse

A Perth man with links to the Salvation Army and several churches has been charged with historic child abuse.

A former Salvation Army church official has been charged with historic child abuse stemming over 25 years.

The 71-year-old man, who has been linked to several West Australian churches, allegedly abused boys aged between the ages of 11 and 18 from 1963 to 1989.

Police allege the man rented a flat in South Perth where the abuse occurred.

He has been charged with four counts of indecent acts, three counts of indecent dealing with a boy under 14 years, two counts of indecent assault and one count of aggravated indecent assault.

The man will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
