Former Wallaby prop John Howard has died suddenly, aged 70.

Former Wallaby prop John Howard has died.

Howard, father of Australian representative Pat and son in law of Wallabies great Cyril Towers, died suddenly aged 70 on Friday the ARU said in a statement.

Howard represented his country on seven occasions from 1970-73 including Tests against New Zealand, South Africa, Wales, France and Tonga.

After his playing days Howard was an assistant coach of the Wallabies and enjoyed several successful coaching stints in England, France, Japan and the United States.
