West Australian surfer Jarryd Foster has revealed he produced the ride that won the national Biggest Wave award on a hastily-borrowed board.
Having relocated to Tasmania two years ago, 27-year-old Foster was back home in WA for a short period when a big swell came up at the famed Cow Bombie break.
"It was such a special day of waves," said Fostyer.
"It was the biggest I had seen out at Cow Bombie and definitely the cleanest it gets at this size.
"I had to scramble to borrow a wetsuit and borrow some boards and luckily for me I got towed into this wave, on all borrowed gear, and it's turned out to be the biggest."
West Australia backed its claims as the home of big wave surfing in Australia, producing 11 of the 12 finalists at the annual Oakley Big Wave Awards, with WA surfers winning three of the four categories.
