Fou named for Sevens return

Outside back Pama Fou has recovered from shoulder surgery to be named in Australia's squad for the final leg of the Rugby World Sevens series in London.

Livewire outside back Pama Fou's return to the Australian Rugby Sevens team is complete, named in the Thunderbolts squad for the final leg of the World Series in London.

Australia have been drawn against hosts England and will face Jarryd Hayne's Fiji early on Sunday morning (AEST), as each team look to finalise their preparations for the Rio Olympics.

Fou, who dislocated his shoulder in Cape Town last year, will play a crucial part in Australia's medal hopes come August, and his inclusion in the squad for London is a huge boost for the team.

Coach Andy Friend has otherwise named one of his least experienced squads during his tenure in the role, with captain Ed Jenkins, Cam Clark, Con Foley, James Stannard and Sam Myers all resting from the weekend.

In turn, it will allow a number of fringe players to stake their claim for an Olympic berth at the final event before the squad enters training camps.

Recent additions in Jesse Parahi and Nick Cummins have both been named, while Josh Holmes will likely be the chief playmaker in the absence of both Stannard and Foley.

"Jesse (Parahi) was one player who did stick his hand up last weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing him back it up," Friend said.

"I've not had the luxury of being able to select Pama (Fou) as yet - but he's been looking sharp since returning to full training and to see him and Henry Hutchison combine is a potentially explosive mix."

Australia will almost certainly finish fourth in the overall series standings after the weekend - their best result since 2010.
