Four US cities vie to host 2024 Olympics

The United States Olympic Committee says Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington are in the hunt to stage the 2024 Summer Games.

Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington are the four American cities in the race to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has said.

"Boston, LA, San Francisco and Washington have each given us reason to believe they can deliver a compelling and successful bid, and we look forward to continuing to explore the possibilities as we consider 2024," USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun said on Friday.

Dallas and San Diego will not be part of the bidding process, the committee added in a statement.

The International Olympic Committee will accept bids next year for the Games and make a decision in 2017.

The United States hosted the Games in Atlanta in 1996 and staged the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.
