Olympic silver medallist Jessica Fox has been crowned national K1 champion after paddling to victory in the women's canoe slalom event in Sydney.
The 19-year-old executed two fault-free runs to win the gold at the Australian championships in Penrith on Friday, a second ahead of Victorian Sarah Grant and New Zealand's Luuka Jones.
Fox only managed bronze in the same event last year and said she was very happy with the result.
"I was third last year after a great year in 2012 and ... that was a bit disappointing, so to come back and win is really exciting," Fox said.
The teenage star is aiming to take out the C1/K1 double at this weekend's national championships and Sunday's Australian Open.
Fox won silver in K1 at the 2012 London Olympics and is the women's reigning C1 world champion.
However she is considering quitting C1 after the sport's governing body decided not to include the event in the women's Olympic program for the 2016 Rio Games.
Meanwhile in the men's C1 class, Perth's Robin Jeffery edged out New South Welshman Ian Borrows for the gold, with Victorian Christian Fabris taking the bronze.
