Pay TV company Foxtel's chairman Robert Nason is stepping down from a leadership role at Telstra.

Mr Nason, 60, is retiring in October from his role as Telstra's group executive of business support and improvement after five years, the telco's chief executive David Thodey said.

"He has been in tireless pursuit of waste, inefficiency and frustration to make it easier for us to do business and easier for people to do business with us," Mr Thodey said.
