Fracture threatens Fruean's season

Robbie Fruean is in doubt for the rest of the Super Rugby season after fracturing his arm in the Crusaders' round three loss to the Chiefs.

Crusaders winger Robbie Fruean could miss the rest of the Super Rugby season after fracturing his arm during Saturday's 16-40 loss to the Chiefs.

Fruean had surgery on Tuesday to insert a plate into his right arm, and the timeframe for recovery is expected to be between four and five months.

Crusaders' coach Todd Blackadder said the entire team was feeling for Fruean.

"We know that Robbie wanted to make this a great season, so this is hugely disappointing for him," he said.

Blackadder said Fruean still had an off-field contribution to make for the Crusaders.

"We hope that he's able to make a full recovery before the season is over."

The Crusaders have made a shaky start to their Super Rugby season, with one win from three matches. They have a bye next week, before lining up against the Lions in Christchurch on March 14.
