Eintracht Frankfurt have signed former Germany goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand until the end of the season in the wake of a long-injury layoff for their first-choice keeper Kevin Trapp, the Bundesliga club said on Thursday.
Hildebrand started training in Frankfurt the same day after arriving as a free agent because his contract at Schalke was not renewed after the previous season. The 35-year-old won the Bundesliga title with VfB Stuttgart in 2007 and has seven Germany caps.
Hildebrand will start as second choice behind 24-year-old Felix Wiedwald.
"I know my role. I won't cause a fuss," Hildebrand told a news conference. "I see my job here to help Felix Wiedwald ... I am happy to be here."
Trapp damaged an ankle ligament in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Mainz, underwent surgery Thursday and is sidelined for the rest of the year at the mid-table club who visit bottom side SV Hamburg on Sunday.
