French rugby player dies of cardiac arrest

Sudden cardiac arrest found to have been the cause of death of young French rugby player William Ebongue Sipamio of club Racing Metro.

LE PLESSIS-ROBINSON, France, June 6 AFP - Racing Metro's 19-year-old prop William Ebongue Sipamio died of a "sudden cardiac arrest not linked to his sporting activity", the Top 14 club's president Jacky Lorenzetti revealed Friday.

"It was a sudden death of an adult," explained Lorenzetti, adding that an autopsy had been performed on Sipamio, who was found dead in his room at the club's training centre in Plessis-Robinson on May 27.

The young prop, also a member of the French national academy, passed away just two days after helping Racing win the under-19 national title.

The Top 14 club will name the media room at its Plessis-Robinson headquarters in memory of Sipamio.

Racing also traditionally associates each season with a former great but the club will dedicate the 2014/15 season to Sipamio.
