Freo add soccer, basketball stars in AFLW

Fremantle have added former basketballer Brianna Moyes and soccer player Angelique Stannett to their AFL list.

Fremantle have signed former Perth Lynx basketballer Brianna Moyes and ex-Perth Glory soccer player Angelique Stannett to rookie contracts for the 2019 AFLW season.

As they build their lists for next season, AFLW clubs can sign up to two players who have not played football in three years or have not been involved in an AFLW program.

The Dockers identified the pair as part of their rookie talent search program.

"I've always loved footy and taken a keen interest and it wasn't until this year that it became an option for me," Moyes said.

"I used to kick the footy around in the backyard with my dad - he built wooden posts and painted them white.

"And now (to be on an AFLW list) it is just a dream come true."

In addition to being an exciting talent, Moyes fits the Dockers' nautical theme, working on the Fremantle docks.

"I work ... as a stevedore, driving the trucks under the cranes and I also work on the ships," she said.

Stannett, 21, is highly regarded for her leadership abilities.

"I started playing team sports when I was six and it's basically been soccer for the past 15 years now until this year when I turned my sights to AFL," Stannett said.

"I'm super excited and I'm so grateful to Freo for giving me an opportunity ... I'm really ready to get stuck into it."

The Dockers finished seventh in the first two seasons of the women's competition.
