Fresh search in 2002 Sydney murder case

Fresh evidence has sparked a police search of a northern Sydney property over a 2002 shooting murder.

New evidence relating to the 2002 shooting murder of a man has sparked a search of a property in Sydney's north.

Jason Friend was shot in the head, while he slept in West Hoxton 13 years ago.

His wife Catherine Friend was charged with murder and was sentenced to 18 years in jail but police believe someone else was involved in the shooting.

Police said they had reopened the case after receiving fresh information that led to an ongoing search for a firearm and other evidence related to the case.

The search is being undertaken at a semi-rural property in Berrilee.

In 2005, Ms Friend stood trial alongside her ex-lover Philip Raymond Grubb for her husband's murder.

The Crown alleged Catherine Friend had helped the gunman into the house to carry out the murder.

Both pleaded not guilty to the crime.

A jury found Ms Friend guilty but failed to reach a verdict in Grubb's case.
