Friends are rallying around a 25-year-old man, who's fighting for life after being bashed at Sydney's Darling Harbour.

Fitness enthusiast Emilio Bonnani was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital early on Sunday where he remains in a critical condition in an induced coma.

One friend posted an image on social media of a sign reading "wake up and live" along with a message pleading for him to pull through.

"Please please please wake up please just make this a bad dream wake up bro," he wrote.

"We have our whole lives to live together, partying together so many more memories to be made, your my brother u need to wake up for your family and friends we still need you", he said.

One friend remained optimistic, posting "Our party boy's waking up bro, he's gonna wake up. Positive thoughts".

Police believe three men were responsible for the attack and are looking at CCTV footage as well as calling for witnesses to come forward.

Mr Bonnani was walking along Cockle Bay Wharf with a group of friends at 1am on Sunday when an argument broke out between them and the trio.

The verbal confrontation escalated, punches were thrown and Mr Bonnani was struck repeatedly before he fell and hit his head on the pavement, police say.

The trio fled the scene towards Wheat Street and jumped into a grey or blue car.
