Collingwood recruit Jeremy Howe will miss AFL round one after breaking his finger playing frisbee.
The high-flying 25-year-old underwent surgery last week.
While adept at taking screamers well above the ground, it appears a low-flying frisbee brought about his downfall.
The AFL website reports Howe caught his middle finger in the ground while playing catch with his girlfriend and dog.
The former Melbourne utility now has two screws in the lower part of his finger.
Given Howe was already struggling on the training track with foot soreness, Collingwood football boss Neil Balme says they don't expect him to be back in training in time to contend for their season-opener with Sydney.
"There's probably no hope of him playing round one," he said.
"He'll obviously be out for a few weeks.
"He needs to keep off his foot, and the fact that his hand's not working, he won't be trying to get to the footy too quickly.
"With these two things going against him, it's going to be hard for him to get in front of it."
Howe joined Collingwood in a four-way deal that sent Magpie on-baller Paul Seedsman to Adelaide.
