A local winner has finally emerged in this year's Tour de France with Christophe Riblon taking out stage 18 after two ascents of the Alpe d'Huez.

In a two-bike race over the final stretches of the stage, Riblon chased down American Tejay van Garderen with about two kilometres remaining.

Overall leader Chris Froome finished seventh but extended his lead over main rival Alberto Contador to more than five minutes with just three stages of the Tour to go.

Darren Mara has the details.
