Fund set up to boost Games medal haul

A new $15 million fund will pay for equipment, coaching and high-performance training to boost Australia's medal chances at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The federal government will set up multi-billion dollar fund to give Australian athletes the best chance of winning gold at next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Tuesday's federal budget will include $15 million to help 2000-odd athletes, News Corp reports.

The fund will pay for equipment, coaching and high-performance training, and for athletes to travel to international meets around the world.
