The federal government is looking for the next big thing in scientific research.
Specifically -- how genes can help treat and even prevent diseases like cancer and diabetes.
The National Health and Medical Research Council will award $25 million over five years to a research team that can help explain how genomic data would impact Australia's health system in terms of cost and policy.
Genomics is the study of genes, their functions, and how the way they interact influences growth, development, and health throughout life.
The council's chief executive Professor Warwick Anderson told Manny Tsigas he's hopeful some of country's best medical researchers will step up.
