Fyfe commentary "fake news", says Lyon

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon thinks his star Nat Fyfe has been a victim of fake news in recent days on more than one front.

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has laughed off several reports doing the rounds this week regarding Dockers star Nat Fyfe as "fake news".

The latest speculation surrounding the 2015 Brownlow medallist is that the Dockers are unhappy with unfair treatment he receives off the ball from opposition players and that they would approach the AFL umpires' department with their frustrations.

Fyfe was fined by the match review panel for an errant elbow he threw at West Coast midfielder Elliot Yeo during last weekend's loss to the Eagles.

Replays showed that Fyfe was being held by the Eagle at the stoppage.

But Lyon said that he had no intention of seeking a meeting with the game's officials.

"Fyfe is yesterday's fake news and that's fake news," Lyon said.

"I'm head of football and I have no intention (of calling the umpires).

"We're all big boys and we all compete."

That followed a radio report on Monday that a St Kilda board member had declared that Fyfe had committed to moving to the Saints as a restricted free agent for an estimated $1.5 million a season.

Earlier this week, Lyon told Channel Seven that the Dockers were well-placed to retain the 2015 Brownlow medallist.

"He's fully committed, he's with us. Possession is ninth tenths of the law," Lyon said.

"We love him, he loves Perth, he loves his family, so I would think the odds are in our favour."

Lyon labelled the Fyfe speculation as "ironic" as he had previously spent five years as Saints coach from 2007-11 before moving west in controversial circumstances.

Lyon denied on Wednesday that the ongoing speculation regarding Fyfe's playing future had caused any internal commotion at the club.

Fremantle host Essendon at Domain Stadium on Sunday.

Jon Griffin, Matt Taberner and Cam Sutcliffe head a group of players being considered for selection due to consistent good form in the WAFL.
