Fyfe is undoubtedly the AFL's best: Ablett

Gold Coast star Gary Ablett says there's no doubt he has lost his unofficial rating as the AFL's best player to Fremantle's Nat Fyfe.

Gold Coast great Gary Ablett says there's no doubt about it: he's no longer the best player in the AFL.

Fremantle's Nat Fyfe now holds that unofficial honour, Ablett says.

"Nat Fyfe, without a doubt," Ablett told the Nine Network's The Footy Show on Thursday night when asked who was the league's best player.

Ablett, a dual Brownlow medallist, was pitted against Fyfe, the reigning Brownlow medallist, in last weekend's win by the Suns.

"I was running around with him last week - we got the win but he was fantastic for those guys," Ablett said.

"We tried to stop him, we couldn't.

"Nat, he doesn't have any weakness. He can win contested ball, he wins the ball on the outside, he's so good in the air, and he kicks goals.

"He ended up with 34 (disposals) and three (goals) - and we put a lot of time in during the week watching video of him, working out how we could stop him. We couldn't."
