Fyfe to come under AFL scrutiny after rout

Fremantle captain Nathan Fyfe, the Brownlow Medal favourite, will probably escape suspension for a crude high forearm.

Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe will come under AFL video scrutiny, capping a horror 61-point belting from Collingwood.

The Magpies are on a three-game winning streak and consolidated their top-eight berth with Sunday's 21.12 (138) to 12.5 (77) win at the MCG.

It means the annual Queen's Birthday clash between the Magpies and Melbourne is a true blockbuster, with the Demons third on the ladder and Collingwood improving by one spot to seventh.

Fyfe is the Brownlow Medal favourite, but was among several Dockers midfielders who had minimal impact.

He is also in the match review spotlight for a crude high elbow on Levi Greenwood during the third quarter.

Fyfe will probably avoid suspension, given Greenwood was back on his feet immediately after the incident.

"I didn't see that ... even if I did, unless you're going to pay my fine for my comments on the MRP, I'm probably not prepared to comment," said Dockers coach Ross Lyon.

Collingwood outclassed the young Dockers, who had seven players in their lineup on Sunday with 10 games or less experience.

Fremantle made six changes for the game, four of them unforced, and were missing veterans such as Aaron Sandilands and Bradley and Stephen Hill.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley admitted to being unhappy that Fremantle kicked four of the last six goals, reducing the margin from a game-high 78 points.

But the Magpies' scoring has long been one of their biggest issues and this is the first time they have reached 20 goals in a game since round eight, 2016.

Collingwood boosted their percentage by six points as they try to make the finals for the first time since 2013, Buckley's second season as coach.

With Collingwood midfielders Taylor Adams, Steele Sidebottom and Tom Phillips dominating and Brodie Grundy on top in the ruck, the Dockers defence was under siege throughout the game.

The Fremantle defenders battled manfully, but inevitably the dam wall broke after halftime.

Collingwood had 17 inside 50s to just five from Fremantle in the third term and kicked six goals to two.

"It was a prototype quarter for us ... every side would like to play it that way," Buckley said.

Will Hoskin-Elliott led the way among the Magpies forwards with six goals, a career best.

Brody Mihocek also impressed on debut for the Magpies, kicking four goals.

Buckley also praised captain Scott Pendlebury for his match-up on Fyfe, calling the performance "first-class".

On a dirty day for Fremantle, onballer Michael Walters battled despite a sore calf and worked hard, while David Mundy, Ed Langdon and Andrew Brayshaw also stood out.

Lyon was pleased that Fremantle finished the game strongly, with seven goals apiece in the last quarter.

"We have to hold our nerve, we can't protect the scoreboard - although it was a bit uncomfortable at one point," he said.
