Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove has spent more than $8000 on the vice-regal Rolls-Royce since he came to office.

That is despite the 1970 Phantom VI only being used 11 times since his March 2014 swearing in.

His official secretary told Senate estimates that $8112.90 covered repairs, servicing, types and running costs from March 2014 to June 30 this year.
