Gabba 'unsafe' for women's grand final

Player safety has been the focus in the Gabba's controversial decision not to host Saturday's AFL Women's grand final, according to the ground's manager.

The Gabba's manager says the decision not to host this weekend's AFL Women's grand final there is due to player safety but the ground should be right for AFL action a week later.

The decision to move Saturday's Brisbane-Adelaide decider away from the Lions' home ground to Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast to protect the Gabba's cricket pitch has been heavily criticised by Australian football fans and administrators.

Gabba manager Blair Conaghan says surface instability, brought about by repairs to the turf following this month's Adele concerts, posed "safety risks to players".
