A small Sydney start-up group wants to ensure you never again open your letterbox to find it empty.
Engineers Matt Luba, Samir Thaker, and Garvish Raval have invented Postifier - a small infra-red sensor that sits inside and sends a message to your smartphone if there's something to collect.
The gadget appeared on crowd-funding site Kickstarter earlier in January, with the trio hoping to secure $25,000 by the second week of March.
Seventy-eight people have pledged close to $3000 so far.
The gadget, compatible with both Android and Apple devices, uses a low energy Bluetooth transmitter with a range of about 30 metres.
Its battery will last for over nine months before needing a recharge, the inventors say in their pitch.
It's targeted at a range of people - from the elderly and those with long driveways to those who are simply don't fancy a fruitless expedition.
It will also let users retrieve card, bank and retirement statements "before they get into the wrong hands", the inventors say.
The $25,000 will go towards covering regulatory, testing, and assembly costs.
The trio are also looking at designing a waterproof enclosure.
