Paul Gallen has issued a public apology for an offensive social media post attacking the NRL.
Cronulla captain Gallen posted the comment on Thursday morning while holidaying in Hawaii and it has become the subject of an investigation by the NRL integrity unit and the Sharks.
Gallen fired the extraordinary tweet after news filtered through of chief executive Steve Noyce's enforced departure from the Sharks.
Noyce was made redundant on Wednesday night in a management restructure at the NRL club.
"Steve Noice (sic) actually cared about players from cronulla's feelings. Couldn't say that about any other c*** from Nrl," Gallen fumed, before later deleting the post.
NRL boss Dave Smith confirmed on Thursday afternoon the matter would be investigated, and almost 24 hours later Gallen apologised for the message on social media platform Instagram.
"I would like to apologise to anyone I offended in my tweet yesterday and to anyone who took offence to the language I used," Gallen wrote on Friday.
"I realise in the position I am in, this was unacceptable.
The NSW skipper has been called to front the Sharks board next week over the incident and is facing a hefty fine from both the club and the NRL over the matter.
