Cronulla skipper Paul Gallen has revealed a desire to play at least two more seasons in the NRL.
It was initially thought 2016 would be Gallen's last in first grade after the NSW State of Origin captain finally penned a one-year extension in July following months of protracted negotiations.
However, the 34-year-old has expressed a desire to be part of the Sharks' 50th anniversary season in 2017.
"As long as I keep playing well, I'd like to play again in 2017," he told sportingnews.com.
"It's Cronulla's 50th year in the competition and I'd like to be a part of that."
If signed on to continue in 2017, Gallen - having played 257 first-grade matches - would be a strong chance of join the elite 300-game club list of 24 players headed by Darren Lockyer.
Only 10 players have brought up 300 games at the one club.
Gallen showed no signs of slowing down in 2015, averaging 216m and 34 tackles in 18 games in the black, white and blue.
