The Commonwealth Games move into top gear with 27 gold medals up for grabs on a busy third full day of the competition.

The Commonwealth Games moves into top gear with 27 gold medals up for grabs on a busy third full day of the competition.

There are gold medals up for grabs tonight with Australia's best chances being at the velodrome and the pool, with Liesel Jones defending her 200m breaststroke title, and the women's 4x200m freestyle relay team expected to be in the medals.

Geoff Huegill will attempt to complete a fairytale transformation losing over 40kgs to compete in this Commonwealth Games when he competes in the 50m butterfly.

The gold medal events in swimming include:

Men's 200m backstroke - AEDT 2130 Women's 100m freestyle - AEDT 2136 Men's Parasport 50m freestyle - AEDT 2211 Women's 200m breaststroke - AEDT 2216 Men's 50m butterfly - AEDT 2222 Women's 100m backstroke - AEDT 2240 Men's 100m breaststroke - AEDT 2252 Women's 4 x 200m freestyle - AEDT 2304 Men's 4x 200m freestyle - AEDT 2321

The track and field events also start this evening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with the blue ribbon men's 100 m sprint heats get underway, but with all the big names staying away, the field is wide open.

Australian hurdler Sally Pearson in the heats for the 100m Hurdles and the 100m sprint.

Two events will result in gold medals this evening including the 5000metres including three Australian runners headlined by Collis Birmingham.

At the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex the Australian cyclists will be looking to continue their dominance of the medal events with a medal chance in the key events of the women's team sprint, including Anna Meares and Kaarle Mcculloch.

The gymnastics also continues this evening with Australian's with a chance of gold in the all round events.

Men's starts - individual all round comp - AEDT 1900 Women's starts - individual all round comp - AEDT 2230

Australia's hockey teams will be in action, not quite ready for the medal rounds the Australians will look to dominate in the men's, but will take on India in what could be a hotly contested match with India having a strong hockey history.

Men's - AUST v SCOTLAND AEDT - 1400

Women's - AUST v INDIA AEDT - 1900

Australia currently dominates the medal table, however with 27 gold medals up for grabs in just one day it could rapidly change.
