A gang of four has attacked a shop attendant and her partner during a late-night robbery at a Melbourne milk bar.

The group entered the Hampton Park store on Saturday night and one man assaulted a 33-year-old female attendant while a second man emptied the till and stole cigarettes.

A third man wrestled the attendant's 45-year-old partner and then pushed him through the window of an adjoining shop while a fourth, female accomplice, kept watch.

Police say they all covered their faces and wore dark clothes.

The attendant and her partner suffered minor injuries.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses.
