Gardening tip of the week
The trimmings from end-of-season perennials and vegetables along with the impending leaf drop provide the perfect ingredients for a compost pile. A pile needs to be about a cubic yard in mass, away from dense tree canopies to avoid drying out and accessible for occasional turning. Don't worry about piling it high: Its mass will halve over the winter as it decays.
