Former Wests Tigers favourite Gareth Ellis, who captained Hull to their first-ever Challenge Cup triumph at Wembley last month, has been shortlisted for the 2016 Man of Steel award.

Ellis is competing for the prestigious award with his Hull teammate Danny Houghton and Castleford's record-breaking winger Denny Solomona.

The award is presented to the individual deemed by his fellow players to have had the biggest impact in Super League this year.

The results of the poll will be made public for the first time after the winner is announced in Manchester on Monday 3 October.

On the shortlist for young player of the year are Wigan prop forward Ryan Sutton, Wakefield winger Tom Johnstone and Widnes second rower Matt Whitley.
