Garfield fan of Spider-Man outfit

On the red carpet for the world premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in London, Andrew Garfield said playing the superhero was a childhood dream come true.

Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield has revealed that his love for his superhero outfit extends beyond the film as the comic-book sequel had its world premiere in the UK.

The 30-year-old actor, who reprises his role as Peter Parker and his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, admitted he has gone incognito as the character in his spare time.

"I have been known to suit up when I'm out and about," he said on the red carpet in London.

When asked if he gets recognised, he said: "Of course not. That's the beauty of the costume. They probably see it as a weird guy in a Spider-Man costume so they keep their distance."

Garfield, whose mother is from London, showed off his British roots when he arrived at Thursday night's premiere in a double-decker bus. He was joined by children from London charity Kids' City as the bus pulled up outside the Odeon Leicester Square cinema.

He revealed slipping back into Spidey's slinky suit for the second time was a joy, saying: "I loved it. I've wanted to be Spider-Man ever since I was three so any chance I have, I'm in there."

His real-life girlfriend and co-star Emma Stone stole the spotlight in a pleated yellow dress by Versace, with beaded shoulders.

The 25-year-old, who returns to play love interest Gwen Stacy in the Marvel sequel, said she would tease Garfield by eating fast food.

"I'll eat pizza in front of anybody," she joked.

Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan, who portray the film's villains Max Dillon/Electro and Harry Osborn/Green Goblin respectively, were also at the star-studded event along with director Marc Webb and producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

Foxx, 46, said his children have accompanied him as he promoted the film around the world. "It is always good to get the family involved and they've been around the world with me," he said.

And DeHaan - who arrived with wife Anna Wood - got thrills from playing the baddie.

"It's fun to try to kill Spider-Man. That's awesome and it couldn't be better. We get to have more fun. We get to get down and dirty and grit our teeth. You get to do things you can't do in your normal life," said the 28-year-old actor.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will release in Australia on April 17.
