Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Katrin Garfoot has just missed out on a top-10 finish in the women's individual time trial at the road world championships in Spain.
German-born Garfoot, who became an Australian citizen in 2013, finished eleventh on Tuesday behind winner Lisa Brennauer from Germany.
Brennauer blitzed the 29.5km Ponferrada course in 38 minutes 48.16 seconds to claim gold ahead of Ukraine's Anna Solovey.
US rider Evelyn Stevens finished third.
Garfoot was Australia's sole competitor in the event and team management had hoped she could make it into the top-10 after a strong ride at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
But it wasn't to be.
The 32-year-old finished 1:23.36 behind Brennauer but will learn from the experience.
"The plan was to go out hard, which I don't normally do, and I struggled after half way, but it was a new experience and at least I gave it everything," the Orica-AIS rider said afterwards.
"There were nerves for me at my first championships as it is a big event and there were lot of people out there.
"Not knowing what to expect, not having as much experience still, I will certainly learn from this."
Earlier on Tuesday, West Australian Michael Storer continued Australia's worlds success by finishing strongly to secure bronze in the junior men's individual time trial.
The 17-year-old was seventh at the first time check and fifth with 8km to go, but then picked up the pace to snare third, 58 seconds behind winner Lennard Kamna from Germany.
Kamna covered the same circuit used by the women in 36:13.49.
United States rider Adrien Costa claimed silver, some 44 seconds behind the German.
Storer's bronze meant Australia had medalled in every event to that point of the week-long championships.
Campbell Flakemore won the under-23 ITT on Monday just hours after fellow Tasmanian Macey Stewart claimed gold in the junior women's race against the clock.
Trade teams Orica-GreenEDGE and Orica-AIS won silver in the men's and women's team time trials, respectively, on Sunday.
Rohan Dennis, who was part of Sunday's gold-medal winning BMC team, is Australia's only starter in Wednesday men's individual test.
Team management hopes the 24-year-old can finish in the top eight as a stepping stone towards the podium in future years.
