Gas leak at Melbourne shopping centre

Parts of Melbourne's busy Chadstone Shopping Centre have been evacuated because of a ruptured gas main.

Shoppers have been evacuated from one of Melbourne's busiest shopping centres after a gas leak.

A gas main has ruptured outside the Chadstone Shopping Centre, with shoppers reporting a strong smell of gas on Friday morning.

It may take some time to contain the leak, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade said.

Shoppers have been evacuated from a number of areas within the shopping centre as a precaution, the MFB said.

There are no reports of anyone being affected by the gas.
