Gas leak shuts down Melbourne kinder

A drill has severed a gas main in a Melbourne suburb, forcing a kindergarten to shut down.

A Melbourne kindergarten has been shut down due to a gas leak.

Staff at the kindergarten, on Abbott Street at Sandringham, called the Metropolitan Fire Brigade about 11am on Wednesday after smelling gas.

The leak was caused by a drill in a nearby street and the children are being kept inside while the MFB tries to contain it. Police and ambulance are on the scene.
